Help, I found this part under my car

I found this plug underneath my car, #7 on the diagram, the blind plug for the manual gearbox. Does anyone have any idea what it does? I am a bit perturbed it was under my car in my garage. What will it do if I drive without it?

Do you think it keeps debris out? I haven't found any fluid below my car except a few drops of coolant.

It looks like some kinda plug...? I don't know exactly what it would be used for.

It's an access plug to check for input shaft leak/rear main seal leaks. Also keeps moisture out.

You should put that back in.

It might be a good idea.

I'm supposed to have 2 of those, and they've both been missing for a year and a half now

Yeah -- just try to put it back in. For peace of mind, try to buy a replacement from the dealership (may be a few cents) or find something that will fit snug at an auto parts store or hardware store.
