Drivers window doesnt go up
Anyone know why? I suspect it has come off the track on one side, but I figured if I could get an answer before I go down and take it all apart, the better off I would be.
can you lift it up with your hands? can you assist it, or is the window so far down that it isnt even sticking out of the door panel? also, what happens when you push the button, no sound or anything?

^^^ Sorry I didnt explain very well, it goes up and down, it just doesnt go all the way up. But I found one of the problems, there is a track that is fixed to the door that guides the window from the back, that has fallen off. I will have to get it tacked on or something. But I suspect there is another problem, cause when I hold that piece in position, I still cant get the window all the way up, and the door frame bows out where the motor is mounted???????. I will look at it more tonight, I have to go to my daughters birthday party.

You mean this?
This channel notches into the top, and then there is a screw that holds it in place at the bottom. There is some play before you tighten the screw, so you can adjust the track to the movement of the window.
yea the track may be bent or it may be just a bit out of place, i remember in the e36 the window would sometimes get stuck or go up realllly slowly, theres a little screw at the end of the track with pla in it, just like dudesky said, try to move it all the way to one side, if it helps, good, and if it doesnt, try the other side, just keep moving it until its good

If that track is at the back of the door then yes. But it is not screwed to the door, it is riveted.
Too bad, I was just telling a guy Iknow with an E36 that the power windows in my E34 are very reliable when compared to that of an
E36.

Well I got the window back on the front track. So I can at least get the window up, I could probably even continue to use it. Judjing from the condition of some of the screw covers and the dust on the track that fell off, I suspect that this happened to the previous owner and he just left the broken track in the bottom of the door. I tried opening and closing the door, to see if I could hear the track rattling around in there and I couldnt. So I think its safe to assume that the piece was broken for a while. I always thought the window sounded funny when it was 3/4's of the way up. I will post pics of the fix, once I get it done. I just have to track down my camera.

none of the clips broke right? Mine broke a few days ago so I had to replace those. The e36 windows are a pain to get back on the front rails. No idea about the e34's.

yeah, I had an e36 before the e34. and the little plastic slider broke twice. I found the problem with mine. The rear track that is riveted on sheared off, so I will just have to rivet it again.

Don't fix it... leave your window down. It might just save your life one day.
