97 528i with oil pump problem??
The car was over rev'd in 2nd gear. It was only driven about a quarter mile after that, but the check engine and oil lights both came on. It still starts and the oil light is still on. It idles pretty rough, possibly a miss. Any ideas? Is the oil pump in the oil pan or in the timing cover?
Thanks for any help.

check the oil with the dip stick, if its still good then the computer might be to blame. or, it might really have done something to the oil pump.
how much did you over rev it and for how long?

The over rev lasted about 2-3 seconds at the most. I was on the freeway going about 80 and put it in 2nd instead of 4th.
How exactly could it have affected the computer? If it is the computer, what would be the next step?
Thank you so much for any help!

did you check for compression loss sometimes that could feel and sound like a miss. even check to see if all your spark plugs are where they should be. once this guy came to me and one of his plugs blew right out. he over reved similar to that.
