paul, you may as well get that one, because its cheaper than the 85000 mile trannies anyway, isnt it? and besides, is there even any difference between a 540 tranny and an m5 tranny?

There is no difference in the an M5 and 540i tranny. Maybe the M5 tranny is sturdier, not sure. Thanks dough for the offer. The guy is getting desperate to sell it, money issues I guess. Makes me wonder and his company has 2 complaints filed against them from the Better Bussiness Bureau and neither has been resolved.

What if you haggle him down....say because he has no documentation, and the fact that your taking the bigger risk here, offer him like $1500 or something...

Unless someone closeby can go in and physically look at the tranny and get some numbers from it , I would be worried about its authenticity. Yeah the price looks good, but thats why scams are all about. I almost fell in one via ebay with used motorbike...

Well Dudesky and Doughboy have offered to look at it to authenticate it. I did some digging for the past two hours and found numerous complaints from guys on bimmerboard.com, roadfly and bimmerforums.com about this guy. It had to do with him selling body kits for the E38.
If I can get one of these guys to go and check it out, maybe I would offer a deposit and once it is installed, I would pay the rest. I don't think he will buy that, maybe worth a try
yeah the installment is a darn good idea. If he raises questions, just tell him that look at all the complaints about him everywhere... too bad you are in seattle, otherwise you could drive down yourself with your car.

Shipping will probable be $250 and it will take 7-10 bussiness days.
I think I am going to pass on the tranny. I emailed some of the guys that have complaints against him and they all say to avoid dealing with him if you can.

Well, you still got me Dinan540, I'm still up for it if you want. Just let me know in advance for sometime this week (not after wed). I'll take pics of whatever you guys tell to do, ask questions that those more experienced would tell me to ask.
I guess shipping is freight? If it is, isn't it only to a commercial address? I don't think UPS will just pick it up...

Sorry to hear about the tranny, I am sure you will find another one somewhere. Btw, how in the world did you manage to grind your gears at 60k? Or were you just wanting to convert your car into a M5

Well,
I bought the car with 37K miles on the clock and at about 48K miles the gears started to grind. I think the guy before me must have done several money shifts and fucked the tranny. Who knows. But I will save the money and buy a factory tranny, most likely an M5 tranny.
