List of Tune up items I will purchase for the 60,000 mile E39

1. Serpentine belts
2. Water pump
3. Thermostat
4. Fuel Filter
5. Spark Plugs
6. Cabin filter
7. Oil Filter
8. Oil Change
9. Power Steering Fluid
10. Gearbox Fluid
11. Brake Fluid

I think that is it. The water pump and thermostat are items that prematurely fail on E39 along with the radiator. I have already replaced the radiator.

I have to purchase an air pump, mine is failing also.

In the next several weeks/months, I will do this stuff and buy it. Currently I am researching where to buy it. Most of the items will be OEM.

I have also purchased an pre-vanos intake manifold to install sometime to increase air flow and will purchase the Stage 5 engine software from Dinan.

I will probable try and take pics of some of the install if people want me to.

Am I going to have reason after this to start an e39 DIY knowledge base section?

Hey Harry,

I would love to start it. It will take about 2 weeks for all of the stuff to be delivered. Now, all I need to do is buy a new digital camera.

You realize 4.4 engine's take 8 quarts of oil, not 5. What about the air filter? And have you checked your belts. For your fuel filter, the hose clamps you might have to cut off and are not reuseable, so buying some screw clamps would hurt. Are your power steering lines leaking? How about coolant hoses, are they getting old? Have you checked your rear ball joints recently? what about the front suspension, any play in the center link or control arm bushings?
