After Market Clutch, flywheel and Short shifter
I have a 2001 540i and I want to know what aftermarket clutches, flywheels and short shifters people have tried on their 540i. If you don't have a 540i, I still would like to know what you have used and why you chose that product.
All info is much appreciated. Paul |
i chose SPEC stage 3 clutch and the JBRacing Flywheel. both from beastpower.
what are you lookin at doin paul? that rattle buggin ya? |
|
Devin,
The rattle isn't bugging me. Shifting from 3rd into 4th is sticky. I am having my shop look at it this week. I hope it doesn't need another clutch. I am contemplating a SSK kit and preparing for the worse. How is school? Maybe next weekend, we can hardwire the V1. How come you chose the Spec and not the uuc clutch kit? M power, How come you chose AA? Thanks, Paul |
i didn't know abou the UUC clutch kit for my car. i was in need of a clutch and beastpower is all about the 5 series. its hard to find parts for the e34 535iM cause they are fairly rare... Still don't know all the best sites to look though i'll admit. if you know of anywhere that sells exhausts for the e34 let me know! i'm tired of my straight pipes. still want something that sounds louder than stock but is a little more refined. straight pipes are gettin too "raw" for my every day driving

Hey I will keep my eye out for an exhaust for you. School keeping you pretty busy?
Paul |
busy would be an understatement. i'm friggin swamped. thank god i will never have to take 19 credits again. it wouldn't be as bad if i didn't have waterpolo and work but ya its gettin pretty hectic up here!

Oh yeah and I have the UUC SSK.
I went for the AA Tuning clutch and LTW Flywheels because I wanted something well known that I knew could handle the power. I am int he process of doing major power upgrades and really couldnt for for a standard clutch. I also went with the UUC SSK because it came with other parts that normally dont come with other brand SSK's which usually make those cheaper, but you end up paying for them later when they wear out. UUC SSK is the way to go. As far as a e39 goes, Id ont know if AA Tuning makes a good clutch for you. By the way, the clutch disc and 12 lb flywheel cost about $1500, not including install. |
i got my full setup shipped from beastpower for 1200 bucks total (3 day shipping). installed myself in two days cause i didn't realize i needed external torx sockets to get the bellhousing off. i absolutely hated that particular piece of german engineering. ery straightforward install though and i could do it agin in probably 7-8 hours with one or two people.

I will find out more about the clutch on thursday or friday. I checked aatuning.com and they don't have clutches for the e39. I hope I don't need to replace the clutch and flywheel. Check out this modification, clutch delay valve, http://www.zeckhausen.com/CDV.htm. It seems like a worthwhile mod. I am getting varying opinions about modifying the valve or just removing it.
Hey Devin, at the rate your going, if I needed your help installing the clutch, I would have to wait for the holidays. You are crazy busy. I forgot about those days. I barely see Rebecca because she is so busy with school now. I will keep an eye out for an exhaust for you. By the way, I love www.beastpower.com. Everytime I am on that site I have delusional dreams of owning the E39 M5. The spec stage 5 clutch and flywheel are $1700 and uuc SSK is $300. I might be looking at another $2000 for my car. Plus I need to buy some tires. Maybe I should ride a bicycle j/k Take car man Paul |
