e39 1999 528i
2 problems.
This guy from NYC-Queens is having a problem.
nycz x beamer: i drive a bmw 1999 528i.
The thing is, im not experienced. But i drove it for 1 year and so far
got into a accidented and went in a pot hole.
But the problem is my steering wheel shakes when im on high wayat like 80 mph, 60 +?
Now i know what could be the problem, like just at a fast speed not local slow it shakes.
What could it be?
is it ball joints? wheel alignments? fuked up rims? tires
I have ball park idea long time ago, nothing replaced, suspensions stock too. i wanna take it to a near by mechanic, but i wanna tell them whats wrong since its not a bmw dealer.
I dont want them to bull shit to me and say like something else and problem occurs 1 month later 90k milagealotta problems...
Do you think if maybe the rear left side rim was bent, the rear wheels wouldnt go 100% straight?
Oh, Do you know the prices they charge at the dealership for full maintance check up on my car? Whats included in the maintance check up?
because besides the wheel and tires a lil messed up, my locks are fuked up too.
I'll tell u what happen, see if u can tell me whats up
I took my car for window tinting the trunk window and front window, and afterwards i get my car and realize that
my driver and passenger locks are fuked up. Like it wont go down or go up and my key lock/unlock button doesnt affect the front locks.
damn man, i hear clicking sounds on the passenger front door and driver said lock doesnt even function.
So i took it back for them to fix it, so they said they fixed it and it worked out fine until couple of days later i wasnt home i come back
the car alarm rings outta no where. I'm clicking lock/unlock button on my key to shut it off wont shut off its not being affected.
So i check out whats wrong and try to turn on my car i see 2 red lights , out of battery and oil icon and car wont start when i try to start it up no lights no nothing starts the car is officially dead,
And it's today this happened, so im nervous right now cause i gotta go college to the dorms in 1 day and my cars totally fuked up so tommorow my dad gonna jumper cable it but does that fix my alarm/lock problem?
This is more important then wheel alignment right now cause i dealt wit fuked up balance wheels but this alarm ringing out of no where and not shutting off and wasting my battery
I cant take it its scary, i think the alarm went on and off whole day i was gone is that possible? like outta no where if no1 touched it. It can't be the key because dis never happened b4 in my life until i got my windows tinted and the people might have tampered with the lock/alarm.
So.....what's the answer and how much?

i read 85% then it started getting stupid, like my locks are F***** up, but sounds like he needs his tires balanced, one of his weights may have fallen off

Hum, I don't see a need for it to be deleted... no matter if the response helped him or not, there's a small bit of information here that might help someone else.

same thing happens if you bend a rim which could easily be done in a pothole incident

Ok, well I'll talk to him tonight if he's on to see what the results were...and I'll post it.
I found out today....at our dealership the 25 point inspection is $20. Just for future references.
Do whatever you want.
Thanks Harry

Could be plenty of things - knackered steering bushes, wheel balance (as mentioned earlier) etc. etc. I'll have a look through my BMW service/repair disks when I get home but without actually getting her on a ramp it'll be difficult to help him.
PS do they sell mufflers fot $1000 over there??? - I hope they're made of diamond encrusted gold.
PPS I hope he's going to take english at college.

I talked to him. He said all he needed was a new battery.
The dealer charged him $150. He was good to go.
All he wanted for it to run, and he got it going.
I'll share this information with him and whatever else you have.
I appreciate it, thanks guys!
