2000 540i Auto Differential Question
I thought it would easier to find out these questions, but even the dealer came back and said that one mechanic said one thing and the other said another. So here's my questions:
1) Does my car come with Limited Slip Differential or is that only on the M5?
2) The dealer said Mobile 1 75W90 was a suitable alternaive to thier fluid they use at the dealer. Any thought?

My '86 325e (base model 5 speed) had and LSD, I can't imagine your 2000 5 series wouldn't. I guess the answer is, what part number is stamped on the case of your rear diff?
If the dealer said Mobil 1 was a suitable replacement then you're in the clear on the fluid type.

Thanks... I spoke to Bavian Auto www.bavauto.com and they told me that my model has an open differential (not LS). Also, Mobile 1 is okay for the rear end.
