Your Ride: 1997 E39
Hello Everybody
My E39 528IA Steptronic gearbox has recently developed a fault.
In automatic mode it does not shift upwads from 3rd. to 4th. gear.
If i switch to manual mode it shifts flawless.
Shifting backwards not a problem even in automatic mode.
Anybody has any idea what it could be?

Usually running in 3rd gear is a default "limp mode". But it stays in 3 all the time and does not shift through 1, 2. It sounds like a controller fault, I'd try to get it scanned and see what the computer tells you

Actually it's shifting o.k. from 1st to 2nd and up to 3rd gear in automatic mode, but does not go to 4th gear. I've already put it on a scanner, but it said Fault 57 Unknown.
Any idea?
