Sadly, it now RIP. It was hit on the drivers front fender by a 2012 Jeep wrangler and the car is considered a write-off.
Damage:
Fender
Hood
Bumper cover
Headlight assembly
Signal light
Under-structure is bent by the brake booster
Suspension damage
Steering box
Requires a frame straightening.

Another 5 series? Probably not. That car was a once-in-a-lifetime find (at the time, only 144,000 kms (under 100,000 miles), no rust, near perfect interior, and mechanically sound) for really low $$. I'm pretty sad that it won't be repaired. I loved that 3.0L V8, and the car was pretty fast. Handled great too!
I am working on a deal either a 1999 328i with 116,000 km's (under $3k: widow wants it gone) or a 2003 330xi with 98,000 km's for $4600.

I agree it did look gorgeous. Can you buy it back and fix it or is the damage to extensive? What about parting it out?
I have a 98 328i and I really love it. It's the one in my sig. You won't be disappointed with either. Except I think theirs more E36 knowledge on the forums.

Unsure about buying it back. Might be a option.
It has winter rims on it (plus spare) and I have the alloys (plus spare) in storage........rims might go on sale. We shall see.

It's something that I see often on the forums. Guys will have their car "totaled" by insurance but the damage isn't that bad (no structural, mosty cosmetic) and they buy it back for cheap and fix it up. Or some guys but em back So they can part them out. Takes a while to do but can be worth it. An engine and trany alone can fetch well over $1,000. Te seats $500. Rims $200-300 depending on type and tires. I've never had a vehicle written off so I'm not sure of the whole process, but I plan to do it with my car to make sure I can get my aftermarket parts off of it

Well, so far not alot of activity here. Been fighting like hell with the other guy's insurance company, will get paid out (only going to be $400 under what I paid for the car) and I'm negotiating with a couple selling a 2002 325i with only 85,000 km's on her. Have to drive to Grande Prairie to get her (5 hour road trip up there, 3 hours on the way back ).
So, it certainly didn't end the way I would have liked, I will miss the car like I miss my '89 325i, but at least I'm sticking with a great car company.
Besides, I don't feel like putting my oil filters up for sale....pain in the ass....

I've been their. I hate fighting with someone else's scum bag insurance. After losing $1,200 fighting someone else's company I learned that it's the responsibility of my insurance company to do it for me. I file claim with my company and the provide me with rental car and fix my car and their lawyers go after the other idiots. Something Definitley worth talking to your insurance about.
Driving to Grande Prairie? Damn! I would find something a lot closer! Have you checked out Project Technik yet? www.projecttechnik.com. My username their is Vader. Good group of Alberta guys that can help you find something.

Meh. Grande Prairie is not a big deal. Got some family friends I can crash overnight if I can persuade them to give me a spot in the garage by the dogs.
It's just part of finding what one wants. Sometimes ya gotta go some distance.

Still looking. I might get another 5 series after all. They seem to be less expensive to purchase and the sellers are more willing to negotiate on the price than sellers with 3 series. They tend not to budge much at all.
Keeping everybody posted......
