E34 Fuel Gauge
 

Hello, i have a 1992 518 e34 and i have had a problem with my fuel gauge for some time, i have had a new pump in the tank and a second hand dash put in and it seems like it will get to 1/4 tank and sit there for a while, move, then hit empty and the light comes on. it then moves to just ontop of the red and some times it will go back to a 1/4 of a tank. I have looked and it seems that the capacitors need renewing. Has anyone had this problem and was it the capacitors or something different.

i think the second hand dash - fuel gauge is the problem, have an electrician check it

I had the same problem with the original dash, that is why i sourced another dash, but i think i will have to get an electriction to have a look and see what they can find, can the car be code read or does this not have that luxury

i know that there is a resetting tool that you can buy that also has the ability to diagnose fault codes, kindly check the internet for it
