Please help

Hello all, this is my 1st time on here and I am hoping to find somebody that may have had the same problem as me and rectified it.

I bought my 1st BMW 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it apart from one small thing, every now and then it has a hissy fit and stalls everytime I stop or pull away. When it is having this fit it has been known to backfire and does not run as smoothly as normal. As I pull away I feel the power drop as if it is going to stall but if I put my foot to the floor the engine will dip then move off.
I took it to a mechanic this week and he hooked it up to the computer and it said that the cam sensor was showing a fault and the symtoms of a dodgy cam sensor are the above. He did a full service and changed the sensor. A friend said it is just the idle control valve but the mechanic does not believe my car has one so i gave the car to the my friend and he had trouble removing it so he sprayed something into it to help.
The spray and the sensor change has not helped the issue. Does anyone have any ideas?

My car is a BMW 525i se auto

Thank you for reading.

Phil

I had an E30 that liked to do that, had to replace the ECU (Engine Control Unit). Last 5 series (e12) that did that to me was a bad ground to the fuse box, do some digging, clean some grounds you might get lucky and the problem will go away. Your's seems kinda new though to have those issues. Did you take to a beemer specific guy or just a general service guy?

Hello there, I took it to my mate who works on all types of car. Do you think I should go to a main BMW dealer?

Maybe a main BMW dealer or a beemer specialty shop. Of course the dealer would have access to any potential recall or TSB on the vehicle. General service guys can do most stuff on these cars w/no problem, but every once in a while.......................
