Valve Seals
Okay so had the headgasket blow out on a 95 525i...got the head off, and ordered parts, took the head to a shop to see if it was flat and it needed a little work...pressure test was good, but it had 3 leaking valves according to them...the wanted an additional $625 to do a full reconditioning because they said thats the only way they would replace them...yeah screw that. I am no engine head specialist but I am good around a wrench and cars. This is my first bimmer, got it for free and just want to get it running. I am no doing a full rebuild for money reasons right now (college student). So my question is how bad would it be to leave those valves alone?? Needing to add some oil between oil changes is it? Or how hard is it to replace them myself? I have all the tools needed I think in order to do it? Ideas? Help?

If you've never done it it's not hard but it can be dangerous, and if you do it wrong you can kill the engine really dead. Leaking valves, depending on how bad, cause low compression, misfires, oil consumption. That can lead to overheats head warping and a need for a complete new engine. Rule of thumb, if its already apart just fix it double work sucks and can lead to further totally unnecessary damage.
