charging light comes on intermittently.
can anyone help with this problem? I could be driving at 30mph and the red light comes on for the charging system.stays on for 10--20 seconds and sometimes on tickover.It`s a little iritating to think perhaps the alternator is defunct or is there a regulator not doing it`s job.
Go for a 100 mile plus drive---no problems----enter suburban areas at speed limits,red light appears again----anyone out there know the possible cause.
It`s driving me nuts!!! Car is a bmw 520 auto---circa 2000---2.2petrol six cylinder.

My bet IS that it's the alternator or voltage regulator, I'm guessing you have about 150,000 miles on this car. Get it checked out before you get stranded on the road.
