E12, E28, E34, E39, E60General discussion and technical help for all year 5 series cars.
I went to my car one morning and the following occured:
Battery was dead.
After jumping the car the following was noticed:
Interior light no longer works (middle pushbutton on ceiling which lights the entire car when pressed or when doors are open).
Doesn't turn on by doors nor pushbutton
Remote keyless entry buttons on both remotes no longer work except to open the trunk
Using the key to unlock the doors still works
Fuel door still locks when I lock the doors from keyhole
Interior central pushbutton lock no longer functions
One of my keys no longer will turn the ignition on
Car turns on, no ignition
Switch keys, car starts
I'm not sure if they are all actually related, but they all occured at the same time. There are no blown fuses (first guessed it could have been the fuel door actuator draining the battery and causing the locks to not work).
This is a real stumper, and I've searched heavily through all the forums for anything remotely similar. All I can deduce is something got 'cooked' when jumping the car, but the fuses are all intact so what gives!?
Someone suggested to me that the ignition may be bad; but I'm not sure why one of the keys would start the car and the other wouldn't in this case. I've also heard of a possible locking module failure which could cause various systems to fail...
If your car has "intelligent keys," the one key may have been damaged. Along with that, a power surge (I guess) may have affected the rest of the system.

I think you may be right with the key being broken. As far as I can tell, there is a transponder in each key, and it may have gone out at the same time the other things happened.
But the rest of the system is really bothering me. The central locking button just not working? The interior lighting not working with the interior hard switch?

Still trying to figure this one out... Besides the key not working, the lights not working is really annoying. Anyone know of a solution to the light problem? No fuses are blown...
