540i becomes muscle car

Have had a 540i A for just over 3 years - its a 99 model in boston green with all the toys. I live in the UK but am quite an active member of an American Car club and own an 84 corvette - even tho I lvoe my 540 which I got after the vette - I always wanted to make sound more in-line with the power it has.

Two weeks ago the cats blew out - nothing left just empty tubes - bmw uk wanted near £2k to replace them so I put a shout out on our forum and another member came to my aid - heres the build up video for the new system on the car

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vleqd-9s9Yo

I know the tips and the sound won't be to everyones taste - but it certainly shows how truely powerfull these engines can sound

Phil.

I love the sound. It's the way the pipes hang down so low that I'll have to get used to. My question is: why is the welder using MIG gloves with a TIG welder? Wierd.

sounds a lot like my buds 740i with teh same engine. He just took out the rear mufflers. But urs sounds a litel cleaner and more deep.

i love it. Pipes arent too bad, I woulda ut em out the side..but thats my preference

Yeah as I've said the boot floor causes problems with fitting them in any other position - its that low that there is no point in cutting the bumper to fit them higer up as the bumper and boot floor end in the same place - the only thing that woulda lifted em a little is smaller tips but that woula only raied em half an inch if hat and I like the big uns anyway

Theres a good chance he's wearing diffeent gloves as he was using both mig and tig welders during the uild so just probably didn't change em

Its certainly not what you'd expect to get from a modest looking 5

Do it, but get ready for some loudness. Mine is straight from the cats and when I rev it, I always get the second look reaction

Yep its pretty Kool Mine goes down pipes - then high flow cats from somet like a viper! then 2.5" all the way to the back minimal resonators hardley packed at all and then out the tips so all it really does is concentrate the rumble out to the back of the car . ITs right on the UK legal limit at 94Db at 4meters from the car!

M5 rear bumper + readjusting the pipes would do a world of difference. I know people can get the M5 exhaust to work the the 540i so I know theres room under there somewhere to make it work.
