Your right it can be done - however it means buying an M5 bumper and getting it painted - also means getting an M5 boot floor as the spare wheel well on the M5 is different from the 540i, as the 540's is lower and off set to the right hand side when viewed from the rear, then getting the pipes re-located - its a fair wedge of cash and at the end of it only the back would look like an M5 - I'd still need front valence, headlights and mirrors to carry off the effect and even though it sounds fantastic a tru M5 would eat it easy so yes it can be done - but I most likely won't do it .
Now supercharger! that may work and can ya imagine the sound with all the extra air and around 450Bhp? HHHHMMMMM

HELLO ALL,
My names Fin, And Im the welder in the video.....(and the owner of the company :-)
Id first like to point out..... THEY ARE TIG WELDING GLOVES...lol....... just a little warn/burned..:-)
Just like to thank you guys for the comments on the system. Tip style and exit location is the customers choice (they are the ones paying the wedge after all..:-)
With Phil telling me he wanted a new system and he wanted it loud that gave me the chance to think about the performance of the system first..... And yes with Phil being in the American Car scene here in the UK I tried to make it to sound like something from Nascar :-)
The first time you hear the engine the system is less the 4 x Tip silencers you see being made.....also the system is not totaly seam welded hence the Pops and bangs.. I first fired the system up at 11:30pm (that was a long first day of the 20hour build) BOY was I impressed..but it needed to be calmed a little.
As with all these web videos, the sound is only as good as the MIC and the speakers you play it on.... and the Mic are camera ones (poor at best)
Anyway....Thanks again for the comments, the system was a lot of work but worth every penny...Of Phil's money ;-)

Okay, my bad . . they certainly could be, but one usually wouldn't use the long sleeved style with a TIG since it doesn't spatter. Unless of course you're welding all day everyday and you need the UV protection.

Sounds sweet.......makes me miss my Camaro's........personally I like the pops and tinny sound the system made without the tips..more like a true muscle car..or atleast like my old ones...the tips really do sound refined and, dare I say it again, SWEET........awesome job on the build up

I love the way your five sounds. It gets me thinking about my 5. What cats did you replace yours with? I have toyed with the idea of replacing my Y resonator with a straight pipe to get more sound out of it.

The cats are I believe froma company called cat co - all stainless to go with the exhaust. Fin will know more but in a nut shell it goes
manifolds which go from four each side into 2 each side,
Into a collector made by fin
Through each of the cats / again 1 per side
Then an X-pipe
Then custom made resonators ( which aint much bigger than the pipes)
and then out to the tail pipes
Each tail pipe has an inner perforated tube just to trim the noise down a little more, but cruisin thru town at 30 or 40 and lifting off brings a nice number of pops as the engine spinns down a little, its the kinda sound that by lookin at your car in the pics I'd expect to hear from it
Phil.

The American CatCo Cats are designed to work with GM (and other V8 applications...ie the SBC 5.7... they quote a 25% increase in flow over stock.... And they are fully emissions legal and out flow the original BMW efforts (they are total over kill...as is the rest of the bmw system....Remover the Y resonator)
Yes I buy my Cats from the USA :-)
The first pair of silencers in the system are 2.5" to 4" to 3" then a length of tube then down to 2.5" again. Inside is 2.5" perforated tube.
The Expansion part of the tube has no wodding/sound media behind it. The 3" od section has a single layer of our sound media. please see thelink for details
