2004 530i -- phone question, BlackBerry?
I have a 2004 BMW 530i with the FM/AM/CD Changer/Logic7 system. On my iDrive menu, I have the Communication option but no phone is installed -- the Phone and BMW Assist options are not enabled on the menu.
I have a BlackBerry 8100 Pearl which has Bluetooth capability, the only thing is I don't even know if I have the ability to add a phone to the car. What would be involved with getting my BlackBerry to work with the car, if possible? On a side note, I also don't have navigation on this thing either, and I'd be curious to know what would be involved with adding it in. |
Here's a list of compatible phones . . I didn't see yours on it, but that doesn't mean it isn't supported. This stuff changes all the time:
http://www.wireless4bmw.com/compatible.pdf A good place to go for this kind of stuff is www.bimmernav.com |
I don't think a blackberry has that kind of bluetooth. I think you can only transfer files and use the headset not hook up to your car.

Thanks for the quick replies!
Dudesky: Funny thing, I was talking with BMWUSA on the phone earlier about it and the guy gave me the wrong URL. He kept saying it was BMW4Wireless.com, I kept saying it wasn't working and he couldn't figure out why. :lol It looks like the Pearl is supported on that list. How do I connect the phone to the car (or try to)? |
Yea, I saw the Pearl, but it didn't give the model # so I wasn't sure. As far as hooking it up, I honestly don't know . . I'm still learning my E39, never mind the E60! I think you could call the folks at BimmerNav and they can probably help you. And stick around here, maybe someone else has the answer. Post some pics of your new ride!

I'll have to take some pictures tomorrow or Friday -- the weather was kind of crappy. :P
One thing I notice, when I go into Communications | Phone on iDrive, it says: "For further information, please contact your BMW center." Then at the bottom it says "No set". If I push the knob in at the main menu (where it takes me to configuration), there is a section at the very bottom for Communications but I'm not sure what's what on that screen. Some of the options appear to be unavailable to me as well. |
The newest issue from Bavarian Autosport has 3 different units that integrate with the phone wiring to provide bluetooth capability

I got in contact with Bimmernav.com and they have Bluetooth integration for my car for $725. Navigation will be $4000. Unfortunately it doesn't look like I'm going to have any luck at all with a factory Sirius solution, however. BMW USA insists that it isn't possible (which I don't believe -- it's possible but it's an issue of how worthwhile it is), my BMW center isn't willing to perform the necessary labor because they're worried about what would happen if they messed up (not the most encouraging thing to hear from your BMW center), and Bimmernav offers no solution for Sirius.
I guess if I want Sirius I'm going to have to go the plug-and-play route which I really didn't want to have to do. :( Has anyone installed the Bluetooth kit from Bimmernav? How involved is it? I used to do aftermarket car work but I've obviously never used/installed this particular system. |
