P/S Pressure hose question

Just got my car back from shop and one of the things that was to be repaired was a P/S leak. Was told that the P/S pressure hose was replaced. When I went to leave, I noticed that the car was hard to stee and that the steering wheel movement was "jerky". He re-checked and said he noticed that the new hose didn't have a metal piece in it, and that BMW says that that is the correct replacement hose. Now, he is try to find a fitting with that piece in it to attach to the new hose.

Does this sound right? What is that piece and is it the cause of my steering problems? What advice can I give my shop on fixing this problem.

Thanks In Advance.

there is a check valve that's inline - but it sounds like they didn't bleed the pump. To do; fill resevoir to full line and SLOWLY turn sterring wheel from stop to stop lightly stopping for a few seconds at the stops. Then recheck the level.

C1,

I just went outside to bleed the pump. I slowly turned the wheel to the left, when it got to the stop, I heard a "pop", waited a few seconds, tried to turn it to the right but all the power was gone. Look outside and under the hood an P/S fluid was everywhere.

Getting ready to call the shop to have it towed in. Any idea what could have happened?

sounds like they used wrong hose without valve in it. I'd have it back to them ASAP and have them correct the problem.

I am, just called AAA. Funny thing is that he knew this valve wasn't in the new hose but he checked with BMW and they said the he ordered the correct replacement hose.

I'll keep you posted.

Spoke with my shop this evening and he told me that the pressure hose busted. You couldn't tell by looking at it but when he put fluid back in he said you could see it shooting out.

The good news I guess is that he said I should have it back by noon tomorrow.

More to come...

Does anyone have a picture of what the metal piece inside the presuure hose looks like? I'm reading so much about it but I haven't seen a photo of what it looks like>

Thanks
