Unhappy fuel delivery control system

I have a fault code 1260 fuel delivery control system. I t started as a sudden loss of power, no check engine light on, wont pull over 2500 rpm even reving it up light. The fault changes slightly somtimes it clears so as to accelerate normally up to 3000 rpm then starts to surge. When its in the 3000 rpm mood if I clear the fault memory and drive normaly without pushing it the fault doesnt come back on the computer but as soon as i push it the error reccurs. Now the first short sprint from cold usually seems normal but after stopping at the first road juntion it just wont pull away, has to be coaxed. I disconected the fuel delivery pressure sensor on top of fuel filter which brings on check engine light and puts it in limp home mode and now it drives and pulls fine. So its getting fuel from somewere so I think the pumps are ok . If I watch the rail pressure on the laptop it goes up and down proportional to rpm.I thought the pressure regulator should make a rapid increase in pressure when power is demanded. Any body out there with any tech info or anything on the 530d system.
