Horrible Smell Under Backseat - United Bimmer Community

Last week we noticed a horrible smell in our 2003 325xi. We thought a dead animal was under the hood or in the trunk. We found nothing. Yesterday my husband took out the back seat. On the bottom of the seat, where there is foam, there are dark brown patches that are the source of the smell! It is awful. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Is there a way to have the foam under the seats removed and replaced? Help- I am miserable!

try fabreeze for cars otherwise you may have to bleach it and kill whatever it is, bleach does not have a pleasent odor either..

I recently purchased a 1991 325ic for my wife. The top was in horrendous shape and water must have gotten in the car for several years. Once I repaired the top I then proceeded to clean the car thoroughly and found that under the back seat we had dark brown to black wet patches. I sprayed a solution of all purpose cleaner and scrubbed it with a washcloth and left the seat out in the sun for a couple of hours. This took care of the problem.
