Detailing and Cleaning

so i know stores sell all sorts of crap to refinish black trim so it has a rich black color.
I got sick of paying so much money for a crappy product. So i decided to try something new. I used conventional motor oil to revamp my black trim.
Its been a week...and the trim has not lost any richness. Its working better then anything i have used before, and its cheap.
so it this bad for the trim? i mean the plastic is just oil..so it cant to much harm can it?
