Wood decor. A way to restore dull spots? - United Bimmer Community

Hi everyone, greetings from Belgium

My original BMW 'wood decor' strips in the E46 become dull in certain spots. I doubt that it's discoloration by sunlight, because panels sitting next are unaltered.
Looks like you would have tried to clean with some product.

Is there a way (or a product) that can bring them up to their initial shine?
Or will I have to go the way to have the clear coat resprayed?

you can actually get new trim pieces, they just clip on and pry off

^^^ Definitely, Lets see some pics. Cleaner might not be enough though. Wood is typically not that expensive to replace, not like brushed aluminium or OEM CF.

Ok, that's the ultimate solution if anything else works.
But the wood trim isn't really wood as we all know (rainforest says thanks

), but simply plastic. So before throwing most of the perfectly good parts away, I want to try to get the shine back.

As for pictures, I've tried that, but on photo it doesn't show. Ultimately, I'll try to respray them with a layer of clear coat (from a spray can).

If that doesn't give the result I want, I can allways replace them.
I suppose they only come as a set?
