quick detailer and clay

hey guys, i have been using mequir's quick detailer for a while now and its a great product if any of you are wondering. but i decided to clay my car tonight and only got my hood and my trunk done cause it was so time consuming, but the outcome was GREAT, i highly recommend it. but now to the question...

i was using mequir's quick detailer as a lubricant (don't laugh) for the clay but i ran out, do i need to get some kind of this polish to finish the job or can i use water and soap or something? any recommendations?

quick detailer leaves a very thin slick protective layer after you use it, soapy water wont, i like using quick detailer, gives the best shine and protection

soapy water will work too, it works as a lube just the same as griots speed shine or meguires quick detailer does.

claying is the process that cleans all of the surface contaminants from the paint. the steps go like this: remove wax by washing with dishsoap, so you have no paint protection. next, use a small chunk of the bar and clay small areas of the car a little bit at a time. remember that you have NO protection on ur paint, so do this indoors in relative coolness. after claying, the surface of the paint will feel much much smoother, and your clay bar will get progressively dirty as you move along the car. throw the small chunks of clay away after they are darkened. after claying the paint, now polish any scratches out that you want to, then move on to wax.

^ good explanation. as he said, this takes everything off of your paint leaving it totally spotless and gorgeus, but also very nekkid, so be sure to wax yo' jimmy after you clay it.
