For some people that dont know you "clay" which can also mean compound? The dark red "clay" looking stuff that you use like wax?

no, actual clay. now not just silly putty or some kindergarten stuff. go to your auto parts store and get clay, i bought mine off of griots garage's website. i don't know about rubbing compounds, i used some once to clean a boat and it was tricky, i don't think i'd feel comfortable using it on my car unless i knew EXACTLY what i was doing, has a tendency to stain if your not careful.

the clay however is very easy to use, granted it takes a long ass time, but its worth it.

Also read somewhere that mixing shampoo and water in a spray bottle is a good lube for the clay. Have yet to clay my car.... maybe this weekend.

I use mostly ardex products. I usually just use spray wax wen I clay cars... works fine for me. Ive used soapy water too. You wax it after youre done anyway, so its gonna be shiny. After i bought my car, i clayed it real quick before I took the buffer to it. Helped a lot.
