Man passes drivers test on 272nd attempt
Man passes driver's test on 272nd attempt
SEOUL (Reuters) - The motto for one would-be South Korean driver likely is "if at first you don't succeed, then try, try again another 271 times".
Seo Sang-moon passed the academic part of his driver's licence examination on his 272nd attempt earlier this week.
The repairman, from a small town in the southeastern part of the county who will soon turn 70, said he was illiterate and used the test process to teach himself the rules of the road because he could not read them in a manual.
Since the oral exam was launched, Seo took the test as often as he could, paying about $1,000 in fees along the way. Each failure taught him a little more, and after 271 attempts, he was able to get the minimum score needed to pass the academic test.
Test officials were thrilled to see Seo pass.
"He has been coming here for more than five years and we regard him almost as being one of the family," an official from the exam office said by telephone.
Seo said he was preparing for his road test, and was discussing with his wife what kind of car to buy once he get his licence. "Driving seems a bit hard. But after trying 271 times to pass the oral exam, what do I have to be afraid of?," Seo said.

I respect him for trying over and over again. That must take some dedication.

Yeah, at a certain point you should just stick to bicycles... lol
If you can't memorize that test word for word after the first... 50 times.... you have issues. lol

and i dont know about your guys states, but around here the questions are like
you are on a two lane highway, 1 lane each way and bus is stopped with its STOP SIGN out and lights flashing, you are coming at the bus in the other lane what do you do.
1)keep driving
2)hit the kids
3)Lower speed and pass the bus
4)wait til the FRIGGIN STOP SIGN goes away
or you are driving your car and there is a bike lane to your right, what do you do?
1) drive in it
2) use extreme caution when bikers are present
3)think of it as an overtaking lane
4) go home and get your bike and ride in it

would you really want him driving a car anyway? took him that long to figure out something that basic, imagine what he's going to be like the first time he gets behind the wheel! i'll bet his skills will be second only to thermo nuclear warheads in their capacity to annihilate everthing that surrounds him

#1: this is in Korea NOT the USA, their rules and tests are prolly a lot different.
#2: he's 70, and illiterate, it's prolly hard enough for him to memorize anything new, anyone who's tried to teach an old person how to use a computer will be with me on this.
#3: If this was the USA he prolly would have given up a long time ago, glad he didn't
I say good job on him passing!!!
