Car Audio and Electronics
Sponsored by: SKOB on itunes Discuss sub and speaker setups, GPS navigation, XM radio, and anything else related to car audio and electronics.
Aliright heres the situation.
I got a Nakamichi headunit, nakamichi 4 channel amp and Mb quart speakers. The headunit has an AUX input, but when i hook the ipod u to it its not loud enough. So it needs a stronger signal aparently.
SO my idea is to bypass the headunit to hook up the ipod and just hook it to the amp. so what i want to do is get a spiltter of some sort(this is where i need help) that can split 4 channels of audio 2 ways with a switch.
Not sure what it would be called, where i can get it or how much. My radio shack thats near by doesnt have anythign like that...and frankly the guy has no clue what im trying to do.
So you like the idea? I have tried to hook up the ipod an dit works fine directly with the amp. Any problems with this?
..oh yea. Also do they sell an ipod audio connect that connects to the bottom that maybe i could wire to my car for battery charging and audio output? Or can i only use the headphne jacl for output?
Thnx ahead.
Chris

Perhaps you might need a harness? Just a guess.
And one more for input....maybe you need a bigger amp. Not getting enough power to push your iPod.
And I'm thinking yes, the headphones output is the only source.
Unless you get the wall charger...and use it that way. Get your iPod and plug it into the bottom, the wall charger. Plug the wall charger into the wall plug adapter that plugs into a 12V or cigarette lighter.
I hook my iPod up to my 4 speaker stereo system, and it does the trick.
I do this all the time in the limo business. Use this piece (or something similar): http://www.accele.com/accele2/Switches_and_Tuners.htm . Top left corner is a switching device, you can feed up to 4 A/V inputs (you will just be switching audio) and have one output. Run your headunits rca into "1" your ipod into "2" and you have a controller on the dash to switch between the 2 sources. You will have to use the headphone output because you will need something to control the volume. Just an idea, hope that helps...
I just finished one of our limo buses today. I used one of these switching XM radio, a karaoke machine, a DVD player, satellite TV, AM/FM/CD, and regular TV. These things work rather well.
IPOD has a feature so that when it's hooked up to I-tunes it sounds really good. What you need to do is disable the "Ipod tuning" on your ipod, it's on one of the menus then it will sound good.
Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.
do u mean sound check? I got that turned off. also...wheres this menu? do i do it through itunes or through my ipod?

k well..usd my idea. Since i couldnt find a switch with a remote for less then 250$ i just went to radio shack and bought one for 12$.
If anyone has an Amp but their Headunit doesnt have a auxilary input(or one that works) they can use this method. Works pretty good. I wired the switch into the glove comparment, and all you ave to do is flip the switch to switch between the HU and the Ipod.

You can also use a line driver to boost the signal before it goes into the head unit. That way no switching needed, just use the head unit as normal.
....after i spend 4 months wondering how to increase the lines signal...dudesky comes along and tells me.
I think ill just stick with what i got for now.

Yeah my headunit doesn't have an aux out, and I was contemplating changing the whole headnit out just to integrate my ipod into the audio system. I was gonna put a lower quality headunit in since it has the aux just to hook up my ipod to it (because I just can't seem to keep my cd's in the cd case, they fly all over the car, and I'm always constantly switching them while shifting) Now I know I can use my ipod with my current pioneer with an awesome remote--this info has saved me a lot of trouble ;-)
