Sinister 6

The winter months always bring with them many constants that never change—the holidays, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), and of course the debut of Alpine’s latest demo vehicle. The most common question that Steve Brown and Gary Bell of the Alpine Application R&D team gets at CES centers around how we can top ourselves next year. Our response is usually given with a slight smile, knowing that we have a top-secret plan already in place for the next mind-blowing Alpine car. This year the team geared up for our most ambitious project to date—the BMW Sinister Six. Based on a BMW 645 convertible, this car is so highly modified that it barely resembles its origins. The entire interior and exterior of the car were completely custom-built in house at the Alpine R&D facility over the course of five months, by far the most aggressive and challenging project ever completed by the Application R&D team.
“How do you get in?” That’s usually the first question out of someone’s mouth when they see an Alpine demo car. This aspect of our cars is always exciting, because it involves pressing a button to activate some moving parts that allow a lucky passenger to get inside for the full experience. The Sinister Six utilizes a very unique system of motors to allow entry into the vehicle—the top moves back, and the entire seat assembly rotates 90 degrees. In order to make these elements work, the floor of the car had to be cut out and lowered to accommodate the rotating mechanism. A ½” aluminum plate was cut into a circle and bolted to the rotating mechanism to form the base of the seat. Fiberglass, MDF, and ABS plastic were then used to build the rest of the seat, creating a smooth shape that flows with the rest of the interior.
The subwoofer system is another unique aspect of the Sinister Six, since the subs are actually outside the car. Since this is an open car with no roof, getting the bass to load effectively is very difficult. Firing the subs at the ground solves this problem, and having the ported enclosure firing into the cabin lets the bass work on the inside of the car as well. The sub mounting is designed to integrate into the custom bodywork, giving the car it’s unique signature look.
Damn... I mean... the paint job on the hood.. is just
I bet Batman wishes he had one of these
The Body kit was made out of 5 layers of and a few layers of dura-glass fiberglass and the "frame" of the body kit was made from MDF
The car is riding on 24" in the front and 26" in the rear
The "wing" comes out 27" to allow one lucky person to enter the car
