time to upgrade my speakers a bit. Anyone know where to get speakers that actually work well with the 3 series system? How about replacements for the cracked ones on the door panels?

I am not crazy about critchfield for this car. I shop there for all my auto needs though. I want something custom looking, but better.

ps - how do you get to the speakers in the kickpanels?

you get the kick panel speakers in by taking off the trim down there, its kinda a pain in the butt, but not too hard... then i believe its just unscrewing the speakers (like 2 screws from what i remember), and finally disconnecting the speaker

you want something custom looking? what do you mean? im not sure how custom looking you can get your regular speakers, maybe for the sub (if you get), you could do something with that..

i love my system, its great.
i have infinity speakers all around, all bypassing the oem amp and running off of my alpine head unit. head unit has aux input that connects to my ipod.
i have a custom made sub box from el presidente(i dont think he is around any of the forums anymore... he was one of the most helpful audio guys for me, and that is what he did for a living. it houses my infiniy ref 1230 12 inch sub and blapunkt amp.

with a quick adjust to the head unit eq for different music, it sounds amazing.
some dynomat would be awesome, but too pricey for me.

either you edited your post, or i didnt read it thru like usual....
if the tweeter door circle trim things are cracking, then you are out of luck... i mean you can replace the speakers, but the trim isnt really replacable... unless if you bought it from bmw, but you have to buy the speakers to go with them... which is ridiculous... you can always look for cars that are being parted

the funny thing is, when i had all stock audio in my car... i thought my moms BOSE sound system sounded good in her audi... now it sounds like complete shit to me... hahaha

For the kick panels, pull off the door molding beside them, and pry up the front part of the door threshold. Turn the plastic screw 90 degrees to unlock the panel. Careful- the panel is hooked at the top front corner, pivot it out towards the center of the car, then slide back towards the rear of the car. Brien says 2 screws, but I had 4, could be different with each model car.

Get a new headunit, made my stock speakers sound at least 3 times better, nevermind you have a new headunit... get some infinities, or something.

mb quart reference series are very nice sounding components at a decent price. if you can't afford those go with the MBQ Discuss which are lower end but still very good Sound Quality. Boston Acoustics is making some very good components now too. I have heard bad things about their subs though

infinity reference line up is nice, that is what i use.

to start you off, the 5010cs is probably the best you can do with your money, then some infinity 4 inch speakers for the rear deck... all of this will replace your kick panel speakers, tweeters and other door panel speaker, and the rear deck.
i installed this setup on kevin (deloriantes car too and he likes it)

as for the cracked tweeter(small speaker on door panel) trim, you are pretty much screwed unless if you want to go to bmw and pay for those and the speakers together for an ridiculous price.

I've seen metal speaker trim for about $40, with s pieces for each door, I might just do that or make some, all of mine are cracked.
