Police

Ive had a radar detector for about 2 years now and it has definatley paid itself off when it comes to speeding, but most of the cops in my town dont use radar they just follow you at night and clock your speed at the last second and you are already caught. But usually the ones that have thier radar on I can pick up from far away. My question is. is it possible to track CB radios. Like when you are in the area of one something could beep if there is a cb radio that is turned on? Im willing to build this myself I just want to know if its possible to even trace them when they are not being talked into just when they are on. I need some way to know when these cops are around. its not that im speeding all the time (most of the time ) but since im a teenager they really pick on us, For example if we hang out in a parking log i would like to know they are comming just so we know we are going to be searched.

I have a police scanner that listens in on thier channels but they have figured out not to use it when they are comming over to search us and find nothing for the thousanth time.

Any input you have on my cop situation would be very helpfull

thanks

Casey

Unless a radio is transmitting, it can't be detected

How about you be the grown-up in your group and drive normally on public roads?

That is a hell of alot easier than "tracing CBs".

Sounds like they "pick on you" for speeding and loitering. That is soooo wierd.

sounds like youve already got all the protection possible.. detector and a scanner, now you just need to be smart about speeding.

Oh and when a cop tails you to find out your speed, as long as your not doing like 80 in a 30, you can ussually get out of it through entrapment.

Just use the scanner, if its set to the police frequency (spelling?) then if u thing there trying to nap u turn on the scanner. Usually they will call their dispatcher or who ever telling them there gonna nab you or just nabbed you and are gonna pull u over.

ah shit... harry... do you even have room for anything like that? i know it'd be simple other than converting from a stardard house outlet to the right power for your car, but i was only kidding about it...

The only thing you can use is that scanner, which you can mod to just beep during a transmission. But its range will be much greater than the "local warning system" you wanna make, and it will be beeping all the time. Which defeats the purpose of the mod; you may as well listen in to see if the call is about you.

It's all psychology. Cops are people just like anybody else, except they're trained to read you. You just gotta get beyond the fact that they're wearing a badge. If you act like you're waiting to get busted for something, then they'll oblige. If you react to them like they're people, they're apt to be nicer. Sure, there are some who take their bad days to the streets, but mostly it's a mind game. If you're really not doing anything wrong, sooner or later they'll get to know you and your friends, and not be so aggressive. Besides, it's in your best interest to make the first move, since cops can be very powerful allies . . you may just need them someday.

^^^ Think that says it all really - You won't win an argument with a cop so why make things awkward for yourself. Drive around like an asshole and hang about in gangs in public smoking pot and playing loud music they're gonna bust you - that's what they're paid for!!!

i was doing a little research.. and i came across a scanner/detector setup thats pretty tight.

Supposedly all cop cars/aircraft/and on person radios have a kind of beacon so that other officers can locate downed officers quickly.. theres a scanner from uniden.com that picks up this signal and can detect any cop within a 3 mile radius.

heres a link to it: http://www.uniden.com/product.cfm?product=BCT7

it doesn't look cheap and probably isn't worth it unless you plan on getting more than a couple tickets in the next year or so.

its 170 new and they sell mad cheap used.

The only drawback is that its a fullsize scanner vs. a portable one.

Also, i found out it picks up whats called an extended signal, most cops have them turned on all the time - its a receiver in the car that relys the radio that they carry on their belts back to the car and then to out to all units. Basically its so that if they get out of their cars they can call for backup if something happens.. and the range will be the same as from in the car (the handhelds have horrible range). Kinda confusing i know, but most cops ussually have them on all the time, so if they pull someone over they wont forget to stwitch it on, and so they wont have to every time they get out of their cruiser.
