aftermarket alarm

Do you think I should get a BMW alarm or an aftermarket one like a viper?

IMO you should get a Viper... I have one... and there are a few benifits to it... DEI products are recognized by insurance companies and you will get discounts on your ins. policy... another... I works really good, for example... on Wednesday I took a little trip to Newark alot of , and these mother pluckers were going for the whole car cause I had nothing visible to steal... so they broke the small rear window and got skurd when she whent off!!! so they didn't even get in... so now I got a broken window but I still got my car... thanks to Viper... the only reason my pager didn't tell me there was a brake in was cause I was 3 blocks away deep inside a building... But it's one of the greatest investments you could ever make, specially for what we do and what we have. Spend the money to secure your baby, make that the first mod on your list before wheels, spoilers, bumpers or anything like that... it was my first mod....

The only advantage the BMW alarm has is that it plugs straight in to the factory harness. But it has very limited features.

thanks for replies. I'm being quoted for $300 for alarm w/out remote start, that's including install.

Then $400 for one w/ remote start. With one of those pagers, but only comes with 1, and they are $100 each so I guess for spare key which I don't have right now, I just wouldn't have one.

I have the bmw oem alarm system now and am considering the viper.

Do you think the remote start is worth the extra $100? How often do you use it?

Aren't you ever worried someone is going to jump in your car and drive away before you get there if you start it from so far away? lol

once you press the brake or it revs over a certain rpm it turns off, plus the alarm is still on while it remote starts...

Heres a question for you. The last time that you heard a car alarm going of did you even glance at the car to see if it was being broken into to or soemthing being stolen off of it? Nobody really listens to car alarms anymore so I personaly dont see the point in getting one. THe remote start is nice but is it worth 500$?

That's why I use a DEI siren. You can customize the alarm tones. That way I know if it's my car going off outside. Even if you don't buy a DEI / Viper, I recommend you change the siren to a DEI, or another that can do this.
