Let me tell you something... if I hear an alarm going off... amma look... if it's mine, I become "batman" and I start to swing and go for the side of the knee caps... if it aint mine at least amma try to scare them off cause we all know how much it sucks getting your car stolen (that'll be my good deed for the day)... and I have that DEI Viper... I still have my car after they broke my window... they were going for the whole car cause I had nothing visible to steal inside the car... SOooooo it is worth the money. Security and remote start #1, like today it was hot as hell... right dudesky? Black interior... block and a half away... my remote goes beep beep! I get to my car nice and cool ready to go.... BTW I have the one with the pager.... there is one that I wish I could get that is connected to a satellite via your cell phone and it tells you "Yo hommie! yo shiat is being broken into!" you can communicate with your car with your celli... and there is this additional part that you can get that when they get in your car lets say right? you can fill the car with smoke!... and it tells you where the car is (accuracy + or - 3') sorta like lowjack. So with that said... How much do you want to keep your car from gettin vandelized or stolen right after you Supercharge that bad boy... thousands of dollars of sound system.... $600 headlights ... 18" wheels... UUC or M3 Exaust, and spoiler.... so later someone said "Look at this idiot, all that money spent and he got a cheapo alarm, yo Akeem! I found us a car for the Chop Shop!"
Not me hommie... amma spend the money on an alarm and then []D [] []V[] []D my ride with all of the above...., I know this guy... Nice Excursion like woaw! 24" wheels! TVs! Lambo Kit! Stock alarm... Dissapeared! FOR EVER! think about it... you can even use the alarm to further the modding on your car... roll down windows.... preset seats..... on and on and on.... I can be her all night explaining why it pays to have one... I guess once it happens to you, you learn from your mistakes.... it'll even taddle tale when the 5O is trying to tow your car... I KNOW!!!
I like the fact that they can close my top remotely. For the moment I went with cameras on my parking spot. And in its current location I can hit all 3 spots where I normally park. I use a webcam and catspy and I let my neighbors know that it is under surveillance. But I really want to get an alarm on there as well.
Is there anything else on the market that will also control my top? I don't car about the double lock cause on the convertible as soon as you lock it from the outside the doors are double locked. and the pager is a nice feature but I can manage without it.( would be nice though) I also don't want it to be a complete pain in the ass to install. I worry whenever I get under something and start chopping wires.
Most alarms have extra output triggers that you can assign just about anything to, hence the extra buttons on the remote. It's just a matter of getting the right relay to work the convertible top. But pro installers will charge you an arm and a leg for it if you don't feel confident about doing it yourself.
I used to be an electrician before I went into computers so I'm cool with the wiring aspect. I just got to get a good wiring diagram to figure the whole thing out. I would be much happier manufacturing a wiring block to interface with the stock plugs. That way it can be removed and replaced in the future. I guess my first purchase should be a good service manual with the wiring diagram.
