AM radio reception problem, 2004 325i

Hello, I'm new to the forum and it looks like a lot of expertise resides here, after perusing it for a bit. I've read a few posts and it seems that for those who are experiencing AM radio reception problems, there are places to look other than the old "disconnected antenna" difficulty. Someone mentioned a "C-pillar" but I don't know what that is. Apparently there are amplifiers tucked away in various places in the car, powered by 12V. Where should I start looking ... in-dash, headliner (?), antenna? I don't even see an antenna. Tnx for any help you can provide.
