radio trouble

We have a 1991 750iL. This winter we had moisture problems big time.
After we cleared up the problem and the car totally dry and we reset the radio with the radio code, which the dealership kindly gave us, the radio goes on, but you can only faintly hear it. We are at a loss as to where to go from here.
It's a BMW built Pioneer unit with CD changer in the trunk.
Any ideas that might help us figure this out, or are we stuck having to purchase after market?
