Checking in with radio upgrade question

Hello one and all, Ricardo here; currently stationed in the land of the rising sun!
Just received my new (to me) 2000 528i, great car, everything I expected except for that cassette deck
I want to throw this away soon and in a hurry but before I do this, I wanted to double check with the powers that be concerning head unit connection to the stock amp.
1: Where do I connect the new head unit output signal?
2: Do I use the output RCAs to feed the stock amp, could I use line level out?

Basically, the stock amp's output and dsp capabilities ( or lack thereof) doesn't bother me just yet, my intentions is to have dvd unit with multiple screens on the vehicle, I will let the stock amp/speakers do the rest for now

I hope to hear from you guys soon before I jump off into the deep end of custom car audio/video maze
Thanks for looking!

For many things e39 related, http://www.bmwtips.com/ is your friend. You'll find a wealth of resources there, as well as great instructions. As far as upgrades and cool toys for your car, try these places:

Thanks Dudesky for the reply. I have checked those sites before, but still couldn't find wether I could use the stock amp when using a signal other than the stock radio/cd changer or not. Good references though...

you can use the stock amp. Go to a stereo store and get the connecter (plug) that enables you to connect the aftermarket headunit to the stock wiring system
