another question i have: does it matter that the new tweeters will be secured to the plastic trim in the old mesh/grill frame and floating a little as opposed to bolted to the door as previously. i have made a hole in the mesh and sat them in there as otherwise it would mean tapping new holes for them

Not at all. It's even better like that so you feel the whole effect of the tweeter/midwoofer instead of having them separated.

If i remember well you have component sets that are 2 way. 2 Way are midwoofer/midrange and a tweeter. Also there are 2 way speakers where the tweeter and mid are both together as 1 unit. I prefer separates. You can leave them up front because most of yoru sound is going to be generated up front and your rear speakers work more or less like rear fill/surround.

I would recommend Infinity, that os what I have in my car for the front and have them for over 6 years now without them failing. Alpine and Boston Acoustics do great speakers too.
For the remote on, If you don't have a aftermarket radio, splice from a power line that comes on when you turn the key to accessory. That way you can run your stereo when your car isn't runnung
Brown is ground on both. Good luck.
