Navigation systems

I have been trying to do my research on this but it would be nice if someone can tell me if I'm looking at this correctly. Problem : My navigation unit in the trunk has gone bad. I had it swapped out with another unit from another car and everything started to work correctly. So... I have a 2000 740 i sport and based on what I have read, I seem to have an MK2 unit. This would be the unit with the sqware edges on the bezel. It looks like I can upgrade to an MK3 unit the one with the rounded edges on the bezel and it will work with the 4:3 screen on the dash. Then later down the road I should be able to upgrade the unit on the dash with the bigger screen. This is how I see things and I think I'm correct but it would be nice if someone can validate my thinking. I also understand that if I upgrade to the MK3 unit, then I get faster results from the naivigation system. The lag time drops. There also seems to be a split screen feature I will get but I'm not sure if that is part of the MK3 or if that is something with the wide screen console in the dash.

Thanks
David.

All of your assumptions are correct. There is a lot of great info on www.e38.org site with step by step instructions about the nav, bluetooth, etc.

Thanks. I found that last night. I also determined that I can put in the MK IV and for now I can run it with my small 4:3 screen. Thanks for the reply.

Good luck. Show pics of the install when you do it.
