Project: E38 armrest with BT phone into E46
Bigger, more storage, some take a phone which would mean you get to keep your cup holders! was wondering if it would be possible
...so bought this on ebay
the good news is itll slide backwards and forwards and lift and take a phone and provides storage
you need to slide it back to get to the handbrake and you need to slide it forwards to get to the rear passengers central cubby hole
it brushes the seats but no big deal
spent a long time today attaching the sliding carrier to the e46 tray
the upper armrest has gone
the carrier needs to be adapted (with hacksaw, bench grinder and large wrench to snip off alloy) to sit nicely on the tray
a few pics to whet your appetites
will try and finish tomorrow and tidy up with paint and black silicone

swapped bolts for round headed ones basically and trimmed a bit more alloy off the back of the carrier
it'll go in tomorrow (i hope)

i am the most useless spray painter in the world!!!
overcooked it and had to remove all the paint plus the rubberised finish which stripped when i took it off
its only the underside of the armesst but i want it to look right
oh well here goes ...another try

not quite finished. need to route wiring below somehow and screen underside between e46 tray and e38 armrest with some kind of covering or screen...not sure what yet..vinyl, plastic, not sure
i can now use 2 cupholders with armrest down!!! yaaaayyy!!
armrest is a comfortable height and is usable whether in back or forward position
with the armrest slid forwards it can be tilted right back (like before) and rear passengers can access phone.
im happy with result so far

the centre part of the revolving joint is hollowed out ...im going to route wiring around here..drilled a large hole into the lower armrest at the back ..its all hidden it means the covering pieces will need to be stuck on with double sided tape instead of clipped on
the hole for the wires
and the armrest base
in order to cover/hide the inside of the old E46 tray i decided to fill and paint it. the edge has been raised with an alloy band wrapped round it
a lick of paint
