Question Cross Post - What Is This Box?

I also posted this question in the E38 forum, but thought I would post here as well.

Does anyone have a clue as to what the sand colored box could be?

It's okay, it's actually a cup holder, took some sleuthing, but we figured it out.

Our biggest concern was that it was some strange post-factory electronic device.
