Exclamation Help!!!

Alrighty then... so my car won't start, I'm thinking it's the ignition cylinder since before now I'd have to push the key in hard before turning it to the 'Start' position. Was wondering if anyone had information on how to wire up a pushbutton start system? I have the wiring diagrams for my E23 L7, so as long as I know what to hook up where all will be good.

I've looked through the posts on here pertaining to the start button install on an E36... only thing I'm worried about w/ that setup is someone being curious and hitting the button with the engine running and chewing up the starter bendix or flywheel... any ideas?

you can pull a two step push button set-up (a HD for 12v power to the complete system, then a push button for the starter only & it would be a momentary push button so it only engages while the button is held down) The current new style "fad" kits going around are similar but it's better to hide the switch(s) so know one but you knows where they're at. I had a huge battery(emergency) switch on the dash of my bird, then the momentary switch was under dash hidden.

For the moment I was planning on hiding the momentary start button just so no one feels the urge to push it. Though in the long run I'd like one that has a circut to tell if the car is running or not and dis/enable the start button accordingly. Either way I want the key in the ignition, at the 'On' position to be necessary. I'll have to see if I can get the schematics to pull up for the E90 w/ its start/stop button and employ parts of that. Once I get everything perfected I'll do a DIY, but not until (not one to put up theoretical info unless it for a collaboration )

If you get the wiring skems. and want to continue to use key - use the key to activate power for car and wiring to just the starter to your push button start - you can also get a push-button start that glows when it's running so then at a glance you can see the light on the switch.

I got her all wired, and just have to find a hidden place to mount the button. I turn the key to the 'On' position, push the button and she fires right up... better than when I had used the key.

Well, I've got the start button all wired in and mounted. With a switch to disable use of the button... somewhat crude, but will work until I get a shorter button to put in it's place. Check it out!
