synthetic?

so ill be doing my 3rd oil change today. i have been using mobile1 synthetic, but was wondering what you guys think of other brands. as far as im concerned, they all pretty much do the same, but there is probably a lot more education on here in regards to this topic.

Ehhh . . I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If what you use has been working well, stick with it ;)

lol dudesky, i agree with you, but where does modding your car fit into that statement?

Storamin 04-01-2006 03:41 PM

Don't take Mobil1 on the track. It has a tendency to lose viscosity.

Speaking of synthetic oils - here's a great cutaway of an engines basic components showing injectors, compression & exhaust strokes and the path oil runs through your motor.

If its in a newer car, go with Castrol's high performance synthetic oil...recommended on tracks by instructors and mechanics without affiliation to BMW/castrol etc...

How would it lose viscosity on the track ?

Rooz 04-17-2006 06:47 PM

I've always used castrol synthetic blend and when I took the head off and sent it to the machine shop it was sparkling clean :D

witeshark 04-17-2006 06:47 PM

Longer times of high heat from hard running is my guess

xsperf 04-17-2006 07:42 PM

is that even true, that it loses viscosity, considering some ppl probably go to the track w/normal petroleum oil?

Negrodamus 04-19-2006 11:45 AM

i use the mobil 1 synthetic 15- 50
