DIY V1 Install
 

Hey everyone. devinwwu helped me install my V1 this weekend. It went surprisingly well. I took some pics and am hoping to post a short tutorial this week.

The hardwire kit makes it all the easier.

Here are the pictures and description.

Items Needed:
1. V1
2. Hard wire Installation kit (comes with the V1)
3. Flat Head Screwdriver
4. Concealed Display (purchased separately)

We tapped into the sunroof motor power source. If you don't have a sun roof, you can tap into any 12 Volt power source.

Steps:
1. Remove the Sunroof panel. There are several bundles of wires, look for the wire that is green and white (see the picture). Tap into this wire, your power source. Don't forget to ground the current. I didn't take a picture of it, but there are several screws that you can ground to. You now have power, everytime you turn the key in the ignition, the V1 will turn on.

2. There is a two way plug with an accessory plug and a main plug. Connect the V1 to the main plug. The concealed display plugs into the accessory plug. The V1 comes with double stick tape, that is how I attached the 2 way plug.

3. The concealed display comes with a 6 foot cord. After we plugged into the 2 way switch, we ran the cord tucked into roof liner tucked aliong the windshield and along the A pillar (also tucked underneath the A pillar). We did not remove the A pillar.

4. After running the cord down the A pillar, we removed the side panel below the vent on the dash board, there is a screw in the center (See picture).

5. We then removed the carbon fiber panel (some may have the wood panel interior) on the left side of the steering wheel. There is a clip that pops out. (I took a picture, and it is very blurry. I will take another picture). We ran the wire along where we removed the panel.

6. I used double stick tape to attach the hidden display to the left of the instrument panel. It blocks the engine service bars, but I can easily move the display to see the idiot lights. (I forgot to take a picture of the location of the hidden display, I will do this also).

7. I have pictures of the view from the outside and inside of the car. Email with any questions, I hope this gives people some ideas.

This is my first DIY write up, forgive me if you can't follow it well.

Could you do me a favor though? Could you upload all the pics to your file manager instead of attaching them, and use the [img] tags in your DIY at the right places? After that I'll add it to the Knowledge Base so others can find it easier when they need help installing theirs. :thumbup

i know about the stealth one, but is there a way to conceal it? like put a sensor in the bumper and teh actual unit conceal it under the dash or something, i remember some dude did that, i just dont know how

you can do it with the v1 but mike valentine said it acutally decreases performance. the higher up it is the better. it would be very expensive as well. if you want a kit like that look at the passport zr1 i think it is from escort radar detectors.

paul i start classes tomorrow again. should be fairly empty on mwf though
