DIY: Final Solution for BMW Brake Dust and Dirty Rims/Tires in 10-20 mins!

1. Washing/Armor All Rims&Tires in 10 mins or less and you’ll get soft hands!
Okay, It’s Saturday morning you got tons of errands to do before driving down the strip later on. You need to at least wash your car and be out on the strip blinging by 6pm. The problem is BMWs new and old suffer from dreaded brake dust syndrome every 50 - 100 miles of driving (less if you live and drive in a city). Whiles your car may be still shiny clean from the wash you gave it 2 days ago your rims have gone all brownish grey and black. Dirty rims and ashy tires on a shiny car will not work. They are tons of crap you can spend dough and time abating the problem. I did. Or you can spend more time washing your entire car again. I did this. The problem is time management. And yes, money. WHAT YOU NEED: Ajax Degreaser & Antibacterial Dishwasher soap (Lemon scented is okay) ($2.99). A small bowl or cup of warm to hot water(free). Armor All Extra Shine ($5.00) and a soft (not hard) sponge ($1.00). Another sponge or rag for the Armor All. A garden hose is not required.


WHAT YOU DO: Rinse rim and tire thoroughly with warm water or use hose. Put a spoonful of Ajax on the sponge. Dip sponge in bowl or spray sponge to get soap lathered. Tackle the rim and tire from middle (hub cap) to edge (tires) in these steps. 1. Lather up with soap. 2. Rinse with water. 3. Lather and soap and Rinse-wipe with wet sponge. 4. Wipe dry with rag (DO NOT AIR DRY RIMS). Again wipe dry rims and tire with rag. 5. Use armor all on tire.
WHY IT WORKS: This method is about 2-5 minutes per rim/tire depending on whether you are using a hose or bowl of water. Do not use a large bucket of water or it will take you longer per rim. Since the water will get sudsy and you’ll have to empty and refill between rims. Yes, Never clean rims with used or dirty soap water. Change the water for each rim. A small bowl of water is good enough for lathering up each rims since the Ajax Dishwashing liquid lathers very quickly with minimal soap. The secret is that the Ajax lathers quick and degreases the rims and tires even quicker. Also the Triclosin (Anti bacterial stuff) is a hydrophobic compound that glosses the rims and leaves a nice clean shine.

WHY ITS GOOD: Money saved. I go thru 4 or 5 Mr.Clean carwash bottle per month. I’ve been using the same one 16 oz bottle of $2.99 AJAX since April or May and I got about 2 more months of Ajax left. Compare that to a bunch of $6.99 bottles of Mr Clean soap that you’ll us. Or even the dealership’s $7.00 to $10.00 wheel cleaner, that doesn’t clean rims as quick (or good) nor last as long.

Id like to have it noted that I have heard MANY times that dishwashing detergent is VERY VERY bad for your paint, however, if you keep it limited to your wheels, this should work quite well.

^^^If you have a clearcoat on your wheels, that will be eroded by the dishwashing detergent as well. Use it sparingly if you must, but it should really only be used to remove wax.

I've been using the dishwashing liquid on my rims about every

dish soaps not good at all. you could have listened to the people here, over 4 months ago.

if you don't see much difference in paint quality on your wheels now, from 4 months ago, then the cleaner your using probably isn't too abrassive. but even still, I'd never use dish soap on my wheels, I'd rather scrub harder with car wash soap.

and listen to dudesky, if you get dish soap on your car you better enjoy waxing. the soap will also take the tire protectant off of your tires.

actually...if the dish soap only takes wax and grease off then i should be bad since that is what I'm washing off my rims and tires anyway.

Also I usually wax and armor-all the tires and rims right after. I never just wash and leave it like that.

They will extend the time between cleanings big time.
