Question error code P0153 Bank2 Sensor1

I just picked up a 98 4.4L 740IL that has a check engine light and a error code P0153 Bank2 Sensor1 slow response.

Does anyone know if this is pre- or post catalytic converter and what side is it on.

Thanks in advance,
Pete

Pre-cat, passenger side. First thing to do is to clear the code and see if it comes back. If it does, then buy the new sensor.

Cool

Thanks, I already cleared the codes once and it did pop up again. Seemed as if I had to drive it a long ways to get it to read on the computer again. probably 75-100miles. I was kind of surprized at how long I had to run it.
Thanks for your help!
Pete

Talking

Pre-cat was was correct.
Bank 1 is passenger side and bank 2 is driver side.

So you were wrong and I went ahead and replaced the sensor on the wrong side.

The correct information is as follows:
Bank 1 corresponds to engine spark plug number one side and that is on the side of the closest cylinder head to the front(plug #1 is). That is the passenger side.
Bank 2 is driver side and sensor 1's are pre-cat and sensor 2 are post cat.

So your reply should have been pre-cat drivers side.

Yes you probably could if the car wasn't so old and from back east.
Also I had to use penetrating oil to remove them because they were so rusted and I did not want to take a chance by crushing it by just using a wrench.

As it was I had to use a deep socket and a 3ft extention to break them loose.

Thanks for the thought though.

Oops, very sorry about that The zero in P0153 does indicate a generic, non-manufacturer specific code. I should have double-checked before answering
