possible O2 sensor issue. what do you think of these fault codes?
I'm helping out a friend with his 2000 E46 323i (M52TU 2.5L). He got a CEL and these are the codes: Peake Tool Table 15: 92 - EVAP capillary leak (0.5mm) detected 97 - Pre-Cat O2 sensor short to ground. cyl #1-3 CB - O2 sensor control limit, cyl #4-6 EE - Misfire detected, cyl #1 F2 - Misfire detected, cyl #5 F0 - Misfire detected, cyl #3 F3 - Misfire detected, cyl #6 EF - Misfire detected, cyl #2 E4 - O2 sensor adaptation limit, cyl #4-6 F1 - Misfire detected, cyl #4 Looking into the codes further, the other O2 related codes all point to pre-cat O2 sensors: 92 - EVAP capillary leak (0.5mm) detected (P1478 / DTC 146 - EVAP leak, very small) 97 - Pre-Cat O2 sensor short to ground. cyl #1-3 (P0130 / DTC 151 - O2 sensor circuit, bank1/sensor1) CB - O2 sensor control limit, cyl #4-6 (P0173 / DTC 203 - Fuel Trim, bank 2) E4 - O2 sensor adaptation limit, cyl #4-6 (P1189 / DTC 228 - Fuel Control, bank 2/sensor1) The car has 110,000+miles and likely on the original O2 and spark plugs. The car was not well maintained. My best guess at resolving these are: 1. replace pre-cat O2 sensors 2. new spark plugs I'm guessing 92 might be a loose gas cap?? What do you think or what else should I check for in the fuel system? Finally, his car was overfilled with engine oil, something like 8+qts. It was about 1/2 inch above the max mark on the dipstick. His amber "oil light" was on. I pumped out some oil to bring the level to an appropriate level. Does the "oil light" come on if there is too much oil? Or, is the oil pressure sensor bad? Or, bad oil pump? What should I check? |

AFAIK the oil overfill can cause all the O2 sensor and spark plug issues that the codes show... After that I can only guess  |
