Extended warranty covers EVERYTHING?

I bought a CPO 2003 325xi back in March with low miles and the original factory warranty. This car seems to have some problems with it (mainly shutting off and stalling while I'm driving it - see also known VANOS problems) and so far the repairs have been covered. I bought the extended warranty to push it up to 72 months/100,000 miles, but I'm reading from a lot of posts that a lot of things aren't covered. It's not exactly as bumper to bumper as I thought it was. Does anyone know if the warranty extension does cover the entire car? I'm really starting to get worried that something big like the VANOS controller will need to be replaced again and squeeze me out of a few thousand dollars. What major mechanical malfunction that can cost me a lot WOULDN'T be covered?

They should have given you a document that gives the exact details of the warranty. If it says it covers everything and they refuse to fix something bring it in and make a fuss until you get what you need, you are the costumer be a pain in their ass. Hows the xi working out for you, four wheel drive nice?

actually my brother is experiencing the same problems, he has an 01 325xi, they told him "wear and tear" items arent covered, such as suspension components(? even though those are covered under factory warranty) however he found out that anothe BMW dealer has that included under the CPO warranty, even though it is noted otherwise on his pamphlet that he received from them, so id like to know as well

Those extended warranties are written by "under-writers" similar to an Insurance company and you have to read the fine print. They vary from under-writer to under-writer. Get out your paperwork and go over it & there should be a list of what's not covered and a phone # to contact them with questions. IE: wear items like brake pads, u-joints, tires, wipers, belts, hoses, bulbs are NOT covered - engine parts "usually" are, but you have to call them. NOTE: some dealerships sell up to 6 different extended warranties.

Actually, this extended warranty from BMW does cover the maintenance for the extra 2 years. I'm starting to worry that will be all it will cover, is just maintenance stuff and not something serious like the Vanos. So I basically have the CPO warranty + I did the BMW Maintenance program extension. I'm just wondering if there are any gaps that I may find out about at the wrong time (like a $1,000+ repair bill for something else that shits out on me).

I'm actually in the same boat. 03' 330xi with the WARRANTY ending in a couple of weeks. I purchased just like you the extended MAINTENANCE plan... which will cover your II checkup, brake pads, oil changes etc. for about $1000 its not too bad I guess...

I'm really interested in getting info and if its worth it to get an EXTENDED WARRANTY from a 3rd party "under-writer"... that will cover things like the engine, alternators etc... I'm the second owner so I cant purchase the extended WARRANTY from my Stealer. Only first time owners have the option to extend that...

But you MUST pay attention to the fine print!!! A little research I've done tells me that a descent warranty should only give you a paragraph or so of what IS NOT covered explicitly...instead of the other way around of telling you what is.... assuming everythinng else is.... I saw prices for about $2k-2.4K for 100k Miles extension...

Anybody have experience with these 3rd party warranties and have any suggestions, any info is greatly appreciated. I believe my rate goes up once the "manufacturer" warranty lapses...so I have about 2 weeks to decide one way or the other....

Thanks,
Nikos

Rule of thumb: generally speaking, extended warranties are usually NOT worth the cost associated with them. The norm is that they cover engine and drive train, not including any rubber parts.
