I personally like the e36 body style better... more sporty and sleak looking. But I'm also biased because of my car. haha

E30 is more nimble, and if its as mint as you say, and has amazing suspension, then id say go with the E30! e30's handle like a dream(imo)

i like them both.... i like my e36 more just cause i have only driven e30s not owned.... i say if you want it and its in good running shape (motor and everything else do it..) make sure to have it checked out before buying though! if all the suspension is upgraded it probably means it driven kind of hard... make sure its all in order!

Ha, 93 E36 for a MINT E30....how could you pass that deal up. Not saying the E36 is not a great car, but it's nothing special to own an E36 these days.
Few quesitons:
Does the E30 have less miles than your E36?
Have you driven the car and does it feel sound?
Do YOU own your E36 or does a parent own it (or is it being payed off)?
If the answers to those questions are the right ones, and you are a fan of the E30 then I would def. go for it. Personally, I would much rather have an E30 in the same shape as an E36. But that is my preference because I am all about handling performance and not looks or comfort.
My 2 Cents....hope it helps you decide what is the best option for you.

i have never driven an e30. but a perfectly running one with low miles would be really hard to pass up. im trying to get my buddy to buy one and im gonna be trading off with himm all the time.

The E36 is more comfortable than an E30, finding and installing parts will be easier because of how popular they are, and your pimp factor covers a wider girl demographic than E30s typically do, just because they're newer and more expensive. If something on the E30 breaks, it's more likely going to be followed by some other stuff due to its age. But if it's absolutely mint, then there's no reason to pit one BMW against another in terms of reliability. They're all Ultimate Driving Machines.
I'd rather have an E30 because they're a lot easier to drive (more glass, less fat). I think, where they do look better than the E36 (headlights, taillights, trunkline profile, rear beltline), they look a whole lot better. But I'll not deny that the E36 has a great many design superiorities. If you're trading back into time, don't do it to get a nicer car (even if it is in better condition than yours). Do it because it's more fun and you'd rather have it in your driveway.
I would.

I like both, but I'm biased I guess a tiny bit. E36 is more modern, but a mint E30 is rare!

You better get the E30, unless you want me to hit you.

E30's are popular, and its easy to install things, its not like comparing a E36 325iS to a porsche 911 turbo...just isnt like that.
there is a huge E30 community, bigger then you can think of, and the parts and knowledge is out there, i say GO FOR THE E30!

i duno, this is a really fucking hard decision..
I own about 85% of my car, i paid 3700 and my dad paid 800, once i get my tax money back it will be 100% mine though.
The only thing that would stop me from doing it is drivetrain, i fucking hate the m20.. 24v's own all.
It is mint, im telling you.. its got less miles than my e36, and my e36 has a pretty beat exterior. All the upgraded suspension compoinents have less than 3 grand on them, so im not worried about the car being driven hard...
i dunno, ima think about this one. i do love my car though ;/

wow. that IS a very tough decision. both are very unique in their own aspects. if i were in your position, i'd probably go for the e30. You may miss some of the luxuries of your e36, but i don't think it will matter so much. i say do it!

Well.. ive thought alot about it.. and im going to keep my e36. The main reasons being that the m50 is a much better engine for daily driving, dont try to deny it, the m20 sucks. Dont get me wrong, i am MUCH more focused on performance than on looks, but at this time i honestly wouldnt be able to see the pros and cons of both cars considering handling and track ability, because im not that experienced a driver... yet. Also, again back to the divetrain, the 12v head is simply a dead end.. and i plan to stroke my m50 to 2.9L after i get out of HS.
Now your all going to say, why not swap an m50 into that e30? Well, i have no welding experience, and changing the engine mounts around im sure would prove to be to difficult for me at this time.
