i read just a few of those stories, sounds like bs and some seem like typical dont know how to turn a wrench types.

they dont take into account the following:

my family drove american cars for years and swore by them, even tho my dad or my uncle were out there one weekend of every month (or more) fixing that damn thing. many stories i have of this, yes.

Bought my previous bimmer. in the 5 years i had it, only once did it ever not start up on me, and it was my fault. standard service, timing belt every 60k miles, and of course brakes, oil, etc. next to what they paid on keeping those damn things running, i paid next to nothing, and had a nice sports sedan to boot.

Like I always say, discover something the car does great, and people don't say much. But find something troublesome, and the whole world hears about it.

no electronics > electronics.

the truth of the matter i that every car company has Lemon cars. my parents have owned somewhere around 50 cars since they moved here in 1980. We have had Volvo lemons, Honda Lemons, Ford Lemons, Chevy Lemons my old boss had a G500 and a Sl 500 that was always in the shop..and I have read threads on this site about Lmborghini Lemons and now BMW lemons.....

basically shit happens. Sometimes luck isnt on ur side and u get the wrong car.

i heard that the new E60's interiors feels cheap, even when compared to an e90.

man that sucks. My in-laws had plenty of problems with toyota in the past, wich is an estemed auto maker. My boss and another guy at the shop have both owned VW's in the last 3 years, and both of them said never again. They said that the dealership's they used didn't even have a shuttle service. The list Im sure goes on and on.

I see the same thing in computers. I call it the TV/Toaster Syndrome. The general public is so accostumed to buying things like TV's and toasters- you plug them in, and they just work, period. They forget that cars are a set extremely complex subsystems, and it's an ever evolving engineering process.

I for one would like to randomly say something nice about BMW's . . it's the first car I've owned that had the oil filter right in my face when I open the hood, not some ungodly unreachable crevice. Now does anyone ever thank the guy who decided the filter should go right there??

The oil filter position is great. The 2 blazer my family owns are a pain, but are in a pretty easy to reach area compared to other cars!

speaking of things in reachable places, how about a fuse box thats right under the hood? thats pretty nice.

in the cadillac, its under the dash. you have to be upside down to replace a fuse!
