When did You fall in love with BMW?

I was 9yrs. old my best friends father had a 1989 750iL. We went down to the Brewers game that night. On the on ramp we raced a 1995 M3 from 0 to 120mph. To 60 the M3 beat us, but from 60 to 120 the V12 kick in and we won. I could not believe that a big car like the 750 could handle like it did. And ever since then my passion for everything BMW just gets bigger and bigger.

I can thank harry Maugans for that. I was big into american cars before then, but the second i saw the interior of his car, i was in love.

although a part of me died the day he put every amp of power from his sound system into the "barbie" song (by aqua) with the windows open, leaving school one day.

Was about maybe 10-12 years ago, my dad had bought an E34 a 525 TDI. I loved it, and it was awsome because for instance since the turbo gets more powerfull with loads, we'd pass everyone in hills and stuff. And it was great when my dad got pulled over for doing ~230km ph and the cops couldn't pin point that it was us because they couldn't get a clear picture of the plate and there was another 3 series same color as us that had gotten pulled over. But anywho that's when the love began.

It wasn't until i was about 17 that i really fell for bmw's. I worked at a pizza place driving at the time and my boss bought a 91 318is black with matching interior. One day he let me take it to my place to wax it and clean the interior ( which i happily accepted ) and after that it was i had to have one. About 10 yrs later i have one, black with black interior.

i think the influence of bmw had been around since i could remember. my sisters first car was a red e30 325. she wrecked that two weeks after she got it but during the investigation they found other body damage not caused by her accident. aka the car was sold new, after a wreck. so in settlement after taking the dealer to court she got a 92 325 (e36), the newest 3 series out at the time.

she drove that for like 13 years. then i came around and took it for my first car. after driving, modding and all the goodies - my best friend harry maugans also picked up a silver bimmer, his old 328. =)

so now i'm in an E46 325 but my love for bmw was rekindled a few days ago when i saw the '06 Carbon Black M3 Coupe sitting on a showroom floor.

now i'm discussing with my dad about buying it. see the "I'm in love" thread.

I've been very aware of BMW's since I was a kid the 70's. My family was on the Mass Pike, just outside Boston, when a grey 320i blew by us, stereo blaring clear as day. But I really started following the company after the mid 80's E24's. Wouldn't be till last year that I would own a BMW.

Chuck Norris doesn't fall in love with Bimmers. Bimmers fall in love with him.

When I was 19. I moved from Wisconsin to Nebarka to live with my dad. I had save 6000 dollars from working in high school and another side job at college until I was kicked out. When I came out here I needed to buy a car my father side. So I started to look just for BMWs because I can not shut up about how great of a company they are. So, I found an 1989 E34 535i five-speed. My father side no because it was not in omaha. So I looked for five mor months with no luck. so I went out and got a 1996 VW GTI VR6. Then eight month after I out the car and just put a turbo kit on it ; I totaled it I was not my fault. Some old man in his cady put out in front of me and I T-boned him at 35mph. I then told myself I would buy only a BMW. Then old mans insurecans fuck me over I only got 4850 from the dub. Six months after long hard look I found a 1992 E36 325i five-speed black with tan interior. It was love at frist sigth. I'm just fixing it up and tuning it right now. I'm back in school to be come an engineer for BMW. My best friend just got an internship at BMW this summer. He loves BMWs because I would not shut up about how fun to drive they are.

2 years ago when I was first introduced to BMWs.

I applied at the majority of dealerships here in town when I turned 18....Porsche, Jaguar, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Acura, Infinity, Dodge, Chevy, and lastly Chrysler.

I got an offer to be a Lot Attendant at a used car lot....trade-ins. Or an offer from BMW. Hmmmm...not that hard to make a choice.

So it was BMW. I knew nothing going in....and didn't even know how to drive a manual. My dad drove a 99 Accord 5 speed manual, and that's how I got some practice...but it wasn't anything like the BMWs I drove at work.

I finally got used to driving manuals, and then the next step was SMG. The previous Lot Attendant didn't teach me...so the manager was very hessistant. But over a month period....I was driving the e46 M3s like a pro.

As I got to drive EVERYTHING that came in....I grew to liking the newer models more than the older ones....and then the last step were the top models (i.e 760s, Z8s, M3s/M5s, and 8s).

Annnnd, over this 2 year period....I now know what kind of person I am. My first love is the e39 540i Sport, but I'm sure my first BMW will be an e39 M5. Then the e39 540i Sport....then the e38 740i Sport....and then the new 6ers, new 7s, and lastly the new 5s. I dislike the e90 3s...so those are last on the "favorites" list. Soo yeah. Not making much sense....but yeah, that's what I like about BMW.

Let's just say that I'm glad I got to know BMW more and more, and put BMW in the cars perspective that it really deserves to be.

I was searching for a mceredes C class or Nissan Fairlady Z. But ended up in a E36 328i.

A year earlier, my dad almost got the 850 but repairs cost in the 12-20k bracket. So didn't wanted it.

isnt there a mode on SMG that just switches gears automatically? almost like a true automatic?

Yeah, but I don't think I know how to engage it.

I drove a 650Ci Convertible yesterday with SMG, and I had to manually switch the gears.

Soo yeah, I know what you are talking about but, not entirely sure how to do that.

But, I'd rather switch the gears manually because it reduces the lag. I can really tell when it switches it automatically...like you are talking about.

Anywho
