2 years ago when I was first introduced to BMWs.

I applied at the majority of dealerships here in town when I turned 18....Porsche, Jaguar, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Acura, Infinity, Dodge, Chevy, and lastly Chrysler.

I got an offer to be a Lot Attendant at a used car lot....trade-ins. Or an offer from BMW. Hmmmm...not that hard to make a choice.

So it was BMW. I knew nothing going in....and didn't even know how to drive a manual. My dad drove a 99 Accord 5 speed manual, and that's how I got some practice...but it wasn't anything like the BMWs I drove at work.

I finally got used to driving manuals, and then the next step was SMG. The previous Lot Attendant didn't teach me...so the manager was very hessistant. But over a month period....I was driving the e46 M3s like a pro.

As I got to drive EVERYTHING that came in....I grew to liking the newer models more than the older ones....and then the last step were the top models (i.e 760s, Z8s, M3s/M5s, and 8s).

Annnnd, over this 2 year period....I now know what kind of person I am. My first love is the e39 540i Sport, but I'm sure my first BMW will be an e39 M5. Then the e39 540i Sport....then the e38 740i Sport....and then the new 6ers, new 7s, and lastly the new 5s. I dislike the e90 3s...so those are last on the "favorites" list. Soo yeah. Not making much sense....but yeah, that's what I like about BMW.

Let's just say that I'm glad I got to know BMW more and more, and put BMW in the cars perspective that it really deserves to be.

I was searching for a mceredes C class or Nissan Fairlady Z. But ended up in a E36 328i.

A year earlier, my dad almost got the 850 but repairs cost in the 12-20k bracket. So didn't wanted it.

isnt there a mode on SMG that just switches gears automatically? almost like a true automatic?

Yeah, but I don't think I know how to engage it.

I drove a 650Ci Convertible yesterday with SMG, and I had to manually switch the gears.

Soo yeah, I know what you are talking about but, not entirely sure how to do that.

But, I'd rather switch the gears manually because it reduces the lag. I can really tell when it switches it automatically...like you are talking about.

Anywho

i understand from our point of view, but from ure managers point of view:

1. he should know how to enable auto

2. since auto can be enabled, whats his problem?

2005 - when I bought my 735iL ... it looked like it came out of the James Bond movies... the front grille area.. oh man. but I first really fell in love with BMWs after I saw a M3 (if I remember right) parked outside a mall area....

When my dad bought his 745i, I was never really into the whole liking cars thing until he bought that and I thought it was awesome. After that I really got into cars and never even thought about why I like BMWs, I just do. Love the company and the cars.

when i got an E30 M3 as a toy car when i was like 5. Didnt even know it was a BMW at the time..just that it looked cool.

Then when i was 16 my mom called me and told me she bought me a 1991 BMW.
BUT i never really appriciated the greatness of the car till i actually drove it on my own.
